Description
A confident model, all angles and élan, strides across the sheet in a vivid red‑and‑white striped suit, navy cape tossed nonchalantly over one shoulder. René Gruau reduces form to sweeping brush‑lines, punctuated by the brand’s upbeat headline “impeccable!” and the elegant Marcelle Griffon logotype. The result is eye‑catching, urbane and unmistakably French.
Marcelle Griffon was a ready‑to‑wear house based in Roanne that specialised in sharp, co‑ordinated separates aimed at the modern career woman of the 1970s‑80s. Large‑scale catalogue posters such as this were supplied to stockists throughout France to announce each new season’s range and invite customers to send for the free look‑book.
Printed in colour offset lithography (printer’s imprint: Mafia, Montsoult) on heavy stock, the poster exemplifies Gruau’s late career style: fluid gestural outlines, flat fields of saturated colour and bold negative space. Linen‑backing has flattened original folds.
