Description
A richly painted café interior: an elderly man with a pipe leans in beside two uniformed youths, one sketching at a table scattered with playing cards, while a barmaid presents a tray holding a bottle of De Kempenaar elixir; a small cat watches from the tiled floor. Bold, shadowed lettering anchors the design: “ELIXIR DE KEMPENAAR.”
Although sometimes loosely dated later, documented examples and the Brussels printer credit align this design with the early 1900s (c.1905), part of a competitive Belgian elixir/liqueur market marketed as a restorative tonic.
Executed as a colour chromolithograph with painterly modelling and period costume detail; linen backing supports flat presentation.
