Description

This original Salamander Brandy showcard combines a prominently displayed bottle with ripe grape clusters, a broad river landscape, and oval inset views of the premises and cellars. The large SALAMANDER and BRANDY lettering gives it the strong shop-window presence typical of counter displays.

The label names J.G. Monnet & Cie and “The United Vineyard Proprietors,” the Cognac house associated with the salamander emblem.

Unlike later Art Deco Monnet posters, this uses a pre-war chromolithographic showcard manner: naturalistic landscape painting, decorative framing, and stiff display board rather than standard poster paper. Edge wear is consistent with period retail use.
