Description
A polar bear drives a red open-top car through falling snow beneath bold “AVRA ANTIVRIES” lettering. The Dutch line “Goedkoop – afdoend – onschadelijk” translates as “Inexpensive – effective – harmless.”
Antifreeze advertising became increasingly visible in the 1950s as private motoring expanded across northern Europe. This design uses an instantly readable winter mascot to sell reliability, economy and safety to Dutch motorists.
Offset lithographic poster, signed Mettes at upper right. The composition is typical of Frans Mettes’ witty post-war commercial work, combining cartoon exaggeration, clean lettering and high-contrast colour.
