Description
This original Guinness print shows an absurd hop-picking scene beneath the series title “The Gentle Art of Making Guinness.” A worker is improbably suspended from a ladder and branch while a boy waits below with a Guinness sack, turning the agricultural stage of brewing into a comic tableau.
The sheet belongs to John Ireland’s twelve-image Guinness series commissioned for the 1981 calendar, with “Hop Picking Time in the Guinness Fields” used as the January subject.
The design uses fine ink line, soft watercolour-style colouring and gentle caricature.
