Description
A softly modelled young woman, framed by an oversized string of pearls, is surrounded by watches, rings, cufflinks, earrings, a mantel clock, a manicure set and a hairbrush. This was a jeweller’s or fancy-goods display poster, using the portrait to unify a wide range of gift items.
With no named retailer, this was a British stock or shop-display poster, likely produced for independent jewellers or department stores in the late 1920s or early 1930s. The lower-right printer’s mark reads Stafford & Co. Ltd., the Nottingham firm.
The design combines late Art Deco glamour with commercial illustration: violet ground, bobbed hairstyle, pearl border and carefully highlighted metal surfaces. It was likely printed by colour lithography.
