Description
John Mace’s dramatic L.N.E.R. design presents a stone arch bridge spanning a torrent in the Western Highlands. The scene is built from angular blocks of slate blue, grey and cream, creating a near-abstract impression of rushing water, rock and mountain light.
Issued in 1935 to promote rail travel to the Scottish Highlands, the poster also advertises the L.N.E.R. Holiday Handbook for sixpence. Its broad landscape format, restrained palette and forceful typography give the composition strong period character and make it an evocative example of interwar British railway advertising.
