Description

This original Guinness magazine advertisement carries the headline “My Goodness—My Guinness” above a comic pantomime horse swallowing a bottle, while a startled ringmaster-like figure tumbles back on a travel trunk. The page header identifies it as an appearance in *The Illustrated London News* dated 23 November 1946.

The piece belongs to John Gilroy’s celebrated Guinness campaign, whose absurd animal-and-handler scenes became among the best-known British advertising images of the twentieth century. Unlike the larger 1930s posters, this is a post-war press advertisement issued in magazine format, making it a more modest but still highly collectable original.

The design is a clean offset/lithographic magazine print with wide margins, ample white space and Gilroy’s soft illustrative modelling. The date and artist credit are printed in the sheet.
