Description

A red cartwheel, green sock, stone, brass tacks, playing card, smiling mask, belt and pint of stout are arranged beneath the heading “WHAT THE SITUATION DEMANDS”, with the closing line “GUINNESS for strength.” The image turns everyday idioms into a neat visual inventory, ending with the stout as the essential wartime tonic.

The design is documented in British illustrated weeklies in 1941–42 credited “Painted by F. C. Harrison”.

The design uses a clean white ground, serif display lettering and crisply modelled objects typical of mid-century commercial lithography.
