Description
An emphatic French advertising poster for Kohlscheid anthracite, built around a dramatic photomontage of coal fragments tipping into a stylised domestic grate. Toni J. Mella sets the granular black-and-white image against cool grey and vivid red, while oversized shadowed lettering gives the brand exceptional graphic force.
The slogan “anthracite idéal – à qualité égale prix sans rival” promotes an ideal anthracite at an unrivalled price for equal quality. Dated 1936, the design combines Art Deco typography, photography and geometric abstraction in a striking example of interwar fuel advertising.
