Description
A couple in theatrical costume sweep into a dance beneath the oversized title La Veuve Joyeuse, while inset scene panels above and below suggest further moments from the production. The poster advertises Franz Lehár’s operetta for the Tournée Albert Chartier and trumpets it as “L’immense succès.”
Dated 1907 in the stone and issued in Paris for M.M. Eschig, it belongs to the first French wave of enthusiasm for The Merry Widow. Its Belle Époque draughtsmanship, narrative vignettes and large format give it strong period theatre appeal.
This is a large-format colour lithograph with heavy condition issues: stains, tears, losses, water damage and general fragility. It is mounted on old lightweight canvas rather than modern archival linen, and further restoration is advisable.
