Description
A masked cavalier and reclining heroine fill a waterside Venetian scene, with lantern, lagoon and distant skyline framing the title Venise. The subtitle “opérette en 3 actes” translates as “operetta in three acts,” and the poster also credits music by Tiarko Richepin and lyrics by Albert Willemetz.
The operetta is documented as a 1927 work by André Mouëzy-Eon, and trade references place this postered production at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris. Although Venice is the setting, the poster itself is French, not Italian: it was printed in Paris for Max Eschig et Cie.
Charles Gir’s lithographic design combines romantic costume drama with soft Art Deco line and colour. The artist’s signature and 1927 date appear lower left in the stone, with H. Chachoin credited as printer.
