Description
This large French poster shows a grinning salesman in a campaign-style hat presenting piles of goods beneath the headline “Stocks Américains.” The text announces a “liquidation at rock-bottom prices” of French and foreign stock, including boots, shoes, clothing, waterproofs, work items, bedding, camping goods and tools.
The printed address, “27, rue d’Alsace,” and the vertical printer credit “H. Chachoin Imp. Paris 1932”. It was made for a Paris discount or surplus retailer trading on the appeal of practical imported and domestic merchandise in the interwar years.
The design uses brisk cartoon exaggeration, oversized lettering and crowded product imagery to create urgency and abundance. Despite foxing to the edges, faint staining, corner scuffs and slight buckling, the linen-backed example remains visually strong and highly displayable.
